Fine Snowboarding Conditions throughout the French Alps

There’s been just about 2 metres of snow in the last 7 days. The snow has been so heavy that lifts have been stopped, the train was stopped at Chamonix ski resort and not heading up to Les Grands Montets. Roads have been blocked and snow warnings issued.

This is in direct contrast to a couple of winters ago, when there was the incredibly mild February conditions, grass showing on ski slopes, and admonitions that climate change could mean the end of snowboarding in the European Alps. Indeed the report from 2007 predicted that global warming would make skiing too costly for the majority of snowboarders, with a lot of ski fields closing with the receding of glaciers. Scientists say that it’s virtually impossible to attribute these yearly deviations in the weather to the results of climate change.

We could have the deepest recession in almost 25 years, and the pound has headed to more levels against the Euro, but the skiing is superior, and the latest reservations show that skiers are keen to take of advantage of the superior skiing conditions. This winter is undoubtedly the greatest in nine winter seasons, and many people are stating it is the finest ski snowboarding snow in ten seasons.

However think that this amount of snow means big avalanches risks.
